Ghost Armchair is the winner of ADI's prestigious Compasso d'Oro award

This is the new award for the undisputed ‘Made in Italy’ design icon designed by Cini Boeri for Fiam Italia in 1987. For over 35 years, Ghost Armchair has not lost its relevance and the Compasso d'Oro 2022 award is proof of this.

‘Ghost is the perfect combination of technological experimentation and formal sophistication, designed by Cini Boeri and Tomu Katayanagi.’ According to the explanatory statement for this year's award, Ghost Armchair plays on the ‘absence of a protagonist’: it is a revolution on both a material and visual level. Curves and transparency replace mass, and create a marvellous effect that fills the entire environment.

For this reason, in addition to the inherent characteristics of glass, the Ghost chair has managed to offer warmth, reliability, relaxation, comfort and safety: a true masterpiece that is still a Fiam icon around the world. ‘I had never thought of making a glass chair.... My initial distrust of an idea that seemed unrealistic was overcome by the desire / challenge to see if it was possible to realise it and if Fiam would be good enough to bring it to life’, as Cini Boeri states.
