Visionnaire: Interior for a Hollywood film diva

Jan 1, 2022

Visionnaire has restored and furnished the mansion of Hollywood film diva Bette Davis. The 900-square-metre building is set in extensive grounds with a swimming pool, tennis court and gym.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by the imposing Brunilde chandelier with thirty horns, which is one of the brand's most recognisable pieces. In order to fill the double height of the entrance hall ceiling the manufacturer had to create an XXXL chandelier from the standard size. The exquisite black nickel finish gives the chandelier a particularly sculptural quality, and it is in dialogue with the collection of contemporary art selected by the customer.

All in all - thanks to its ability to create expressive and unique mise-en-scène - the lighting design is one of the main protagonists of this project.  Other highlights include the black and white Bird chandelier made of crystal and decorated with rooster feathers, or the thirty-two-lamp Brando chandelier with onyx velvet lampshades, which creates an intimate yet warm and natural atmosphere in the dining area.

Among other rooms the cinema room is worth mentioning. Here the designers chose the Reymond sofa and armchair, which are designed according to the latest technology and have an internal mechanism that allows the angle of the headrest and the depth of the seat to be adjusted by remote control. The three rows of seats are framed by Amanda lights designed by Philippe Montels. The aluminium plates, which seem to clothe the lights in a hot couture dress, are inspired by Paco Rabanne's work.

"The internal structure of the building underwent a total redesign," says Visionnaire art director Eleonore Cavalli, "all the interiors, from the living room to the lighting design of the bedrooms, as well as the outdoor space, were completely designed by Visionnaire. The client's idea was to get away from the traditional solutions so firmly rooted in Los Angeles, and our project intrigued the client, because creating surprising and unique solutions is a key characteristic of our brand."

The mansion, which has an estimated value of $45 million, was subsequently put back on the market. The entirely custom-built project is one of the latest additions to Visionnaire's portfolio.
